Land use
Switzerland covers a total area of 4,128,476 ha. Approximately one million hectares are used as agricultural land (from this 70% is grassland). Together with the land used for alpine grazing this covers more than one third of Switzerland and characterizes our landscape significantly.
Use of the agricultural land 2008
The agricultural land (AL) is the usable land for plant production, with the exception of summer pasture land and forests.
