Foreign trade
The quantity of imported meat is significantly larger than of exported meat, whereby Swiss meat specialities are gaining in importance as export products. Almost a quarter of the meat consumed in Switzerland comes from other countries. Swiss meat exports, representing 1.3% of the entire domestic production, – in relation to the quantities processed for sale – constitute a marginal proportion of the market, particularly due to the substantial differences in raw material prices for Swiss and non-Swiss meat.
