Meat production

The production of animal products, above all meat production, plays the most important role in the generation of agricultural goods. In 2008, animal products represented 49.6% of Swiss agricultural production. Approximately half of this percentage was meat production (49.3%) and the other half milk production (47.2%). Retail meat sales in 2008 amounted to 5.6 billion Swiss francs and have grown steadily in recent years.
