Fact-finding tour of Switzerland 2014
From 10 – 13 May 2014, media representatives from across Germany enjoyed a look behind the scenes at Swiss Meat. Culture, agriculture and gastronomy in Switzerland were the subjects that formed the focus of this year's trip. The extensive programme of activities included a visit to the Herens cow fighting show (Herens National Final in Aproz), a breakfast on the farm with a sightseeing tour of the family business, as well as a guided tour of a meat drying plant in the canton of Valais.
The journalists were also treated to a closer look at the alpine countryside of Valais and Swiss specialities (Hans Georg Hildebrandt, Swiss Gastrojournalist) and multifac-eted Swiss culture in the form of fascinating presentations.
The Swiss Michelin-starred and Gault Millau point-awarded Chef, Tobias Funke, con-jured up an exceptionally exclusive meal in a cosy wine cellar on the last evening. In addition to gastrotrends, Tobias Funke also provided the journalists with information regarding the research he has been carrying out for months now on recipes that are centuries old and housed in the Swiss National Library. Tobias Funke is famous for being the founder of the oldest menu in Switzerland, which contains dishes that are up to 600 years old.
Journalists of well-known consumer and gastronomy media were also introduced to the traditional Swiss Apéro culture. They enjoyed a veritable feast of the very best air-dried Swiss meat specialities, cheese and a hearty glass of wine and made the most of a little time out.
