«Swiss Barbecue» at the Swiss Embassy in Berlin 2013

At Swiss Barbecue on the 3rd of June, new trends in exclusive meat specialities were presented by Swiss meat companies to the German retail trade, including representatives from catering, hostelry and politics. Proviande, the Swiss Meat Industry Association, hosted this unique networking occasion at the Swiss Embassy in the German Federal Republic with the Swiss Ambassador, Tim Guldimann as their honoured guest.

Swiss Barbecue was an impressively live experience that created a unique platform for dialogue between all the parties. Bell Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Meinen AG, Micarna SA, Ernst Sutter AG, Orior Deutschland GmbH and Traitafina AG were all present, hospitably promoting their appetising products to a very interested public. ‘Burning’ topics included, amongst others, the exclusive craft and exceptional qualities of Swiss meat specialities.

A highlight of the evening was the keynote speech by Dr. David Bosshart, Chief Executive of the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute. An internationally recognised expert in consumer trend research, Dr. Bosshart spoke of the rôle of meat in a globalised environment, and the “battle for strong stomachs, markets, and brands”. The presentation of this theoretical knowledge was then complemented by the practical opportunity for all guests to acquaint themselves with Switzerland’s tastiest side. Guests were visibly impressed by Swiss sausage and dried beef specialities, including the famous air-dried Grisons beef, besides the veal sausage of Saint Gall and cervelat (saveloy) – typical Swiss national delicacies from the barbecue grill.

The event was an unmitigated success. There were animated discussions amongst some 70 guests, and enthusiasm for Swiss meat was distinctly palpable. The idea is now to carry on cultivating and expanding these newly forged contacts. For instance, at Anuga, from the 5th to 9th October 2013, « Swiss Meat » will share an exhibition stand with Meinen AG, Micarna SA, Gruppe Orior and Traitafina AG as co-exhibitors.
